Hound Dog One - Missions 14 & 15

On September 29, 2009, Hound Dog One and her crew returned to the sky to transport two more CBHR hounds. At the controls was pilot Ted Holstein. My designated "Hound Handler" that day was Paul Roderick of Savannah, GA.

Our day started early (even earlier for Paul due to his drive to Hilton Head) as we lifted off shortly after 7:30am. It was a beautiful day for flying (though a little windy which caused quite a bit of turbulence). Our first leg was to Anderson, SC to pick up Kelly Girl and this leg was an hour and 55 minutes long.

We were delayed a bit once on the ground in Anderson, SC due to their fuel truck being out of service AND their self fueling being broken. I'll keep my opinions to myself. :-) After getting fuel, Paul loaded up Kelly Girl and off we went, this time heading to Asheboro, NC...about an hour and a half of flight time. This leg was a bit more challenging since the strong winds blowing over the Appalachians were causing "mountain waves", causing us to bob in the air just like you would in the ocean if you were floating on the surface as the waves come in. Kelly Girl didn't seem to mind, after all, she was flying first class!

After delivering Kelly Girl to The Antoniou's in Asheboro, NC, Paul and I headed for Conway, SC...just west of Myrtle Beach, SC...about an hour long flight. There, we picked up Sallie Mae. She was headed down to Mount Pleasant, SC so her flight was going to be short...only 40 minutes. She didn't mind though as she climbed onto the back seat and enjoyed the beautiful flight down the coast.

We arrived in Mount Pleasant, SC and Sallie Mae's transportation was awaiting her. I'm sure she felt like a celebrity! Her transportation whisked her away and Paul and I were thrilled that we could be a part of the Hound Dog One/CBHR transport network as Missions 14 & 15 were a complete success.

We boarded HD1 and headed home. Total distance flown was approximately 587 miles and I logged 7 hours of flight time.

Enjoy the photos.
